Andhra Pradesh

Population  76 Million
Area  276,574 Sq Km
Capital  Hyderabad
Main language Telugu

Away from the lush green coastal plains, irrigated by the Krishna and Godavari Rivers, much of Andra Pradesh is rocky, bare and dry. The state has considerable topographic variations, with dense forests in the northeast, flat paddy lands in the coastal plains, several noteworthy beaches along the Bay of Bengal and the stark boulder-strewn region around Hyderabad relieved only by several man-made lakes.

Andhra Pradesh was formed by amalgamating the Muslin ruled princely state of Hyderabad with the Telegu-speaking parts of the Madras Presidency. Hyderabad and its nearby fort of Golconda are rich in history, but rural Andhra has its own share of important sites, including the ancient Buddhist centers of nagajunakonda and Amaravati, and one of India’s most modern pilgrimage centers, Tirumalai.

Places of Interest : Hyderabad, Golconda fort, Nagarjunakonda, Srisailam wildlife sanctuary, Vijaywada, Vishakapatnam, Warangal, Puttaparthi and Tirupati.
