Forts

Samthar Fort : Lies at a distance of 66 km from Jhansi. Formerly called Samshergarh and it is now Samthar.

Jhansi Fort : The Jhansi Fort located upon a rocky hill was built originally by Raja Bir Singh Ju Deo in 1613. Today, it houses a collection of sculpture and provides an excellent insight into the eventful history of Bundelkhand.

Baruasagar Fort : 24 km from Jhansi, on the route to Khajuraho, Baruasagar is the historic spot where the battle between the Peshwa's troops and the Bundela's was fought in 1744. This fort is picturesquely situated on an eminence, commands an excellent view of the lake and the surrounding landscape.

Todi Fatehpur : The fort covering an area of 5 acres, is built on a hillock and is surrounded by three massive stone walls.

Agra Fort :  Akbar's generous patronage of art is reflected in Agra Fort, commissioned in 1565. The splendid fort has a seamless blend of Mughal and Indian architectural traditions. With its solid, buttressed 2 ft high walls, the fort is accessible through imposing Amar Darwaza, a tall red sandstone gateway.

Ramnagar Fort : 14 km from Varanasi.  The fort at Ramnagar houses a museum displaying the Royal collection which includes vintage cars, Royal palkies, an armory of swords and old guns, ivory work and antique clocks.  The Durga Temple and Chhinnamastika Temple are also located at Ramnagar.
