Allahabad  

One of the oldest cities in India, Allahabad was bestowed with the status of Tirth Raj or the king of pilgrimages by Lord Brahma, the creator in the Hindu Trinity. He is said to have performed the ‘Prakrista Yagna’ here at the confluence of the Ganga, the Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati rivers. Allahabad was founded by Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1575 A.D. who also built a fort at the point of confluence of the 3 rivers. This city boasts of the Allahabad University, one of the oldest in modern India.

Sangam : The site of important Fairs, it is the point of confluence of the three rivers – Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati.

Fort : Built by Akbar in 1575 AD, holds many tourist attractions like the Ashok Pillar, Saraswati Koop and Rani Mahal (Palace of Jodha Bai). Permission for entry has to be obtained beforehand as the fort is under army administration.

Temples : This holy city has a host of temples like the Patalpuri, Hanuman Temple, Mankameshwar, Alopi Devi and the Veni Madhav temple are a few of them. The city also has a Planetarium and an Archeological Museum.
