Bateshwar

A PIOUS LAND CALLED BATESHWAR

After being regaled by the icon of Love, TajMahal, and the royal surroundings of Agra, don’t take an about turn to Delhi.  Instead traverse across 70 kms and experience one of the most heavenly constellations of temples sprinkled on the ghats of river Yamuna… in the temple town of Bateshwar.  Temples, temples and temples.  That’s what greets you, spellbinds you and blesses you in Bateshwar which appears to have derived its name from VATESHWARNATH, a title of Lord Shiva.  In the world of towering skyscrapers and congested skyline, the sight of 101 temples is both refreshing and invigorating.  Out of these 101 temples, 42 dedicated to Lord Shiva flanking the Yamuna are epitome of centuries of faith and ageless celestial aura which is recognized as the most distinctive of India.  Apart, from the main Bateshwarnath Temple, other temples like Bhimeshwar, Narmedeshwar, Rameshwar, Moteshwar, Jageshwar, Panchmukeshwar, Pataleshwar, Gauri Shankar, Neminath Jain Temple etc. are also worth seeinghere.

APOSTLE OF JAINISM

In the Jain scriptures too, bateshwar holds a  prominent place.  According to legends, the 22nd Tirthankar-Bhagwan Neminath set foot on Bateshwar in mortal form. This is the reason why Bateshwar has some of the most exquisite Jain temples.
